Frequently asked
- How much data does Google Maps use per day?
- Roughly 60-100 MB per hour of active navigation. Downloading offline maps before you fly cuts that to almost nothing.
- How much data is enough for a one-week trip?
- Most travelers land between 3 GB and 5 GB for a week: maps, messaging, social scrolling and a few video calls. Streaming or hotspotting pushes that to 10 GB+.
- How much data do I need for a two-week trip?
- Double the weekly figure and add a buffer: 8-10 GB covers most two-week trips, and 20 GB is comfortable if you stream, work remotely or share a hotspot.
- How much data does Instagram or TikTok use?
- Around 400-600 MB per hour of scrolling. Turning off autoplay on cellular and pre-downloading clips on hotel Wi-Fi is the single biggest saving you can make.
- How much data does Netflix or YouTube use abroad?
- Roughly 700 MB to 1 GB per hour at standard definition, and 3 GB+ per hour in HD. Download episodes over Wi-Fi before you leave rather than streaming on cellular.
- Does using my phone as a hotspot use more data?
- Yes. A laptop pulls far more than a phone: software updates, cloud sync and video calls. Budget about 400-800 MB per hour of tethered work.
- What happens if I run out of data?
- You can top up the same eSIM instantly from your wallet - no new QR code, no re-install.
- Is unused eSIM data refunded or rolled over?
- Unused data expires with the plan validity window, so it is usually cheaper to buy a right-sized plan and top up than to over-buy up front.
- Does WhatsApp calling use a lot of data?
- Voice calls use about 0.5 MB per minute; video calls about 5 MB per minute, which adds up fast on long calls.
- How can I use less data while travelling?
- Download offline maps and playlists, disable background app refresh and auto-updates, set photo backup to Wi-Fi only, and use Low Data Mode on iOS or Data Saver on Android.
